Join Ruby City for a special celebration of the work of Tracey Rose with an exhibition walkthrough led by Ruby City Director Elyse A. Gonzales. Offering insight into Rose’s multidisciplinary practice and the drawings on view, the walkthrough will explore themes, context, and conceptual frameworks that shape the exhibition, inviting visitors to engage more deeply with the work.
Following the walkthrough, guests are invited to a reception to connect and reflect on the exhibition with music by Strawberry Jams, light bites by Sweet Yams, and complimentary drinks. MOVE Texas will also be on site, offering voter registration and resources, inviting visitors to participate in civic processes that impact arts and cultural spaces in our communities.

Held every other Saturday in June and July, this summer morning series invites visitors to gather in the quiet hours of Chris Park for a relaxed, open-air experience centered on connection, conversation, and contemporary art, complete with complimentary hot coffee and iced tea from Mural Roasters.
On June 13, Morning Grounds will feature music by DJ Tones, whose blend of deep house, funk, and soul will provide a soundtrack for the morning alongside a curated selection of books and zines from Read Free SA inspired by themes connected to Ruby City and contemporary art.
Guests are also invited to explore the exhibitions on view including Open This Wall by Daniel Rios Rodriguez at Studio and Sensing Meaning: Abstract Painting at Ruby City.

Meet the artist behind Ruby City’s illustrated Family Guides! Join Colleen Borsh, the artist who designs the exhibition guides enjoyed by all, for a special drop-in drawing workshop inspired by the artworks on view.
Working directly in the gallery, Colleen will share insight into her process and offer creative prompts to encourage close looking, imagination, and personal interpretation. Participants will explore how drawing can deepen engagement with contemporary art, just as the Family Guides are designed to do.
All materials will be provided, and no prior drawing experience is necessary. Guests are welcome to drop in at any time during the session and stay as long as they like.

Colleen Borsh is an artist and educator. She has a special interest in promoting play and discovery. She designs interactive programs and gallery resources (family guides) to encourage curiosity, wonder and experimentation. Most days she can be found brainstorming, drawing or writing on the good corner of the couch with a cold lime Topo Chico.
Join us every third Sunday of the month for a restorative, hour-long meditation session led by a seasoned practitioner. Held outdoors in the tranquil setting of Chris Park, each session offers a variety of mindfulness techniques and begins with a gentle introduction, perfect for both first-time and experienced meditators alike.
Please dress comfortably for outdoor weather and bring a mat or cushion for sitting.

On June 27, Morning Grounds will feature an outdoor yoga session led by Angela Elle Raven from 10:30–11:30AM. Rooted in mindfulness, embodiment, and accessibility, these all-level sessions invite participants to slow down, reconnect, and experience Chris Park through movement and reflection. Participants are encouraged to bring a mat, though a limited number will be available. Free registration is encouraged, but not required.

Beginning at 11AM, guests can also participate in Mindful Making, a free drop-in creative experience led by Ruby City’s Visitor Services team inspired by artworks on view at Ruby City and Studio.

Mindful Making invites visitors of all ages to slow down and engage in simple hands-on creativity designed to encourage reflection, focus, and presence. Led by Ruby City’s Visitor Services team, this free drop-in program offers a welcoming and accessible environment where participants can explore making as a mindful practice while connecting more deeply with themselves, one another, and the ideas explored throughout the galleries.
For this session, visitors are invited to participate in two creative activities inspired by works in Sensing Meaning: Abstract Painting. In Ruby City’s main gallery, participants will explore the work of Michael Lazarus by creating hand-traced cutouts and patterns to form their own abstract compositions. In Chris Park, guests can experiment with watercolor techniques inspired by works by Spencer Finch, Pablo Picasso, and Francesco Clemente, exploring color, composition, and new ways of interpreting the world through abstraction.
Guests are welcome to drop in at any time and stay as long as they like. No prior experience is necessary, and all materials are provided.
